A-Level tutors in Abu Dhabi: Years 12 and 13 at ADEK British schools

Abu Dhabi's British schools run sixth forms where students choose A Levels, often alongside BTEC, and at some schools the IB Diploma instead. The schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, whose 2024-25 Irtiqa'a cycle covered 204 private schools. A Level boards in Abu Dhabi include Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel International A Level and UK boards such as AQA, and the board decides whether exams fall in Year 12, Year 13 or both. LiveTutor matches each subject with a tutor who teaches that specification, in 60-minute online lessons at $15.

The sixth form choice in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi's established British schools offer A Levels in Years 12 and 13, and the strongest pattern in the emirate is that A Levels rarely come alone. The British School Al Khubairat and Repton Abu Dhabi both offer BTEC next to A Levels, and the British International School Abu Dhabi moves students from IGCSE into the IB Diploma or BTEC instead of A Levels. So the decision at 16 is often a three-way one, and it is worth knowing early whether the university courses your child is considering ask for specific A Level subjects.

ADEK licenses and inspects these schools under its Irtiqa'a framework. Its 2024-25 results, published in October 2025, put 13 schools at Outstanding and 51 at Very Good out of 204 inspected. Each school's inspection report is public, which is useful when comparing schools for Years 12 and 13.

A Levels and UAE universities

Students who plan to study at a UAE university need their school certificate recognised through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, and for British-curriculum students the number and grades of A Levels (and the IGCSE subjects behind them) decide whether the certificate is treated as equivalent to the UAE secondary certificate. Requirements change, so check the Ministry's current rules and the target university's admissions page in Year 12, not after results. Our guide to UAE certificate equivalency explains the process.

When lessons fit, and what they cover

Abu Dhabi private schools teach Monday to Thursday and finish by 11:30am on Fridays under the rule in force since January 2026. Sixth formers' days often run late with sport and university preparation, so most book 6pm to 8pm on a weekday or a longer Friday afternoon session. Families in Khalifa City, Al Raha or Yas who would otherwise drive to a tutor on the island save the commute entirely.

In lessons the tutor follows the school's specification closely. The jump from IGCSE shows first in Maths (pace of algebra and calculus) and Chemistry (organic mechanisms and calculations), so early Year 12 lessons rebuild foundations. Later, lessons move to board-specific past papers and the long-answer technique that A* grades depend on, timed to the school's mock and unit exam calendar.

Common questions

Do Abu Dhabi schools offer A Levels and the IB?

Some offer one, some offer both, and several add BTEC. The British School Al Khubairat and Repton Abu Dhabi offer A Levels and BTEC, while the British International School Abu Dhabi offers the IB Diploma or BTEC after IGCSE.

Will A Levels be accepted by universities in the UAE?

Yes, through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, which looks at the number and grades of subjects. Check the current rules and each university's requirements early in Year 12.

What does an A Level lesson look like?

60 minutes one to one in our online classroom with video and a shared whiteboard: a quick check of the week's school topic, worked problems or essay planning, then past-paper questions from the correct board.

How much is A Level tutoring in Abu Dhabi?

$15 a lesson for every A Level subject, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial, and there is a 7-day money-back guarantee before the first paid lesson.
