A-Level tutors in Manama: Bahrain's sixth forms and the year ahead

Fewer Bahrain schools offer A-Levels than IGCSE, because many bilingual schools move students from IGCSE straight into the IB Diploma. The main A-Level sixth forms in the Manama area are St Christopher's School in Isa Town, the British School of Bahrain in Hamala (which also offers BTEC and the IB), Nadeen School (A-Levels and BTEC) and Al Noor International School. Schools are licensed by the Ministry of Education and reviewed by the BQA. Pearson cancelled its May/June 2026 school exams in Bahrain because of the regional conflict, so some students carry deferred entries into June 2027. Online tutoring fits Bahrain's Sunday to Thursday week.

A-Level or IB at 16: the Bahrain decision

Bahrain is unusual in how many students face a real choice at 16. At the British School of Bahrain, a Year 11 student can choose A-Levels, BTEC, the IB Diploma or a mix of A-Level and BTEC. At bilingual schools, the route after IGCSE is usually the IB. A-Levels suit students who already know their direction and want depth in three subjects, especially for UK courses with fixed subject requirements such as medicine or engineering; the IB suits broad all-rounders.

Whichever route, the BQA's published school reviews and each school's own results pages are the best evidence for comparing sixth forms. Ask for subject-level results, not just headline percentages.

After the 2026 cancellations

Because of the regional conflict, Pearson cancelled its May/June 2026 school exams in Bahrain and offered grades based on mock papers and other assessed work, or deferral to May/June 2027. Students now in Year 13 may hold AS grades awarded without exams. That is not a disadvantage for university entry, but it means some students have never sat a full A-Level paper in exam conditions. Timed practice early in the year closes that gap.

What an online A-Level tutor does

A-Level tutoring is most effective on one subject at a time. A maths tutor may spend four weeks on integration and differential equations because that is where a student's paper marks fall away; a biology tutor will train long-answer technique against mark schemes. Lessons are 60 minutes in LiveTutor's online classroom, timed after school in Bahrain or at the weekend, at $15 each, with the first lesson free.
