A-Level tutors in Sharjah: AS and A Level support at SPEA British schools

In Sharjah, A Levels are taught in the sixth forms of British schools regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, several of them running from FS1 to Year 13 in the Muwaileh school zone and around University City. Most Sharjah sixth forms follow Cambridge International AS and A Level, so many students sit AS papers at the end of Year 12 and complete the A Level in Year 13. With Sharjah's Monday to Thursday school week, the three-day weekend is when most A Level students study. LiveTutor offers one-to-one online A Level lessons at $15.

Sixth forms in Sharjah

SPEA's latest Itqan review of 127 private schools put 1 school at Outstanding, 19 at Very Good, 77 at Good and 30 at Acceptable, with none Weak, and found 184,503 of 213,223 pupils in schools rated Good or better. British schools are a large part of that picture, and several run a full sixth form. Sharjah English School, opposite University City, teaches the English National Curriculum through GCSE and A Level; Wesgreen International School and GEMS Cambridge International Private School, both in Muwaileh, teach Cambridge IGCSE followed by AS and A Level.

For students who want to stay close to home for university, Sharjah's University City is a few minutes away from several of these schools. Whether the plan is a UAE university or applying abroad, the subjects chosen at 16 decide the options, so it is worth checking entry requirements for target courses before Year 12 begins.

Using Sharjah's long weekend

Since January 2022 Sharjah schools have run Monday to Thursday, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. For A Level students that means four intense school days and three days in which independent study either happens or does not. A fixed Saturday or Sunday morning lesson gives that time a structure: one subject per lesson, with a short task set for the week. Weekday lessons work best late, around 7pm or 8pm Sharjah time (GMT+4), once the day's homework is done.

Sharjah's 2026-27 year for September-start schools began on 31 August 2026. Cambridge AS candidates sit the May/June series at the end of Year 12, so the run-up after the spring holiday is where extra lessons do the most good.

What A Level tutoring covers

The tutor uses the school's specification and the student's recent work to decide where to start. Year 12 usually begins with consolidation: algebra fluency for Maths and Physics, calculations and bonding for Chemistry, data handling for Biology. Accounting and Business students work on formats and the structure of extended answers. Through Year 13, lessons rely more on past papers and examiner reports from the right board, because A* and A grades depend on precise answers to the exact command words used.

Common questions

Do Sharjah schools follow Cambridge or Edexcel for A Level?

Many Sharjah sixth forms use Cambridge International AS and A Level, and some subjects or schools use Edexcel or UK boards. The school's sixth form guide lists the board per subject.

Is AS Level still taken in Sharjah?

Yes, at schools using Cambridge's staged route: students sit AS papers at the end of Year 12 and carry the result into the full A Level. Some schools enter all papers at the end of Year 13 instead.

Can A Levels be used for UAE universities?

Yes, through the Ministry of Education's certificate equivalency process, which looks at the number of subjects and grades. Check the current rules and each university's requirements in Year 12.

How much is A Level tutoring in Sharjah?

$15 a lesson for every subject. Plans run from 1 to 5 lessons a week, billed monthly, the first lesson is a free trial, and you can switch tutor and keep your paid lessons.
