Choosing a sixth form route in Muscat
Families in Muscat have three common routes at 16: A-Levels at a British school, the IB Diploma at schools such as ABA or The Sultan's School, or a GED pathway at schools that offer it, such as Downe House. A-Levels suit a student who wants depth in three or four subjects and is aiming for UK universities, or for courses like medicine and engineering with fixed subject requirements. Because the main A-Level schools follow the UK system, many students arrive with GCSEs rather than IGCSEs, which makes the step to A-Level content very direct.
Oman's 2026 summer exams were not on Pearson's list of cancelled countries, so current Year 13 students in Muscat generally hold AS or Year 12 results from real exams, unlike many peers elsewhere in the Gulf.

How online A-Level tutoring helps Muscat students
