A-Level tutors in Riyadh: Cambridge and Edexcel IAL, online

Only a handful of Riyadh schools teach A Levels, so sixth-form places are limited. Misk Schools is unusual in pairing Cambridge A Levels with the Qiyas tests for every student. Reigate Grammar School Riyadh and the IGCSE section of Daratassalam International School teach Cambridge International AS and A Level, British International School Riyadh teaches A Levels alongside the IB Diploma, and Sri Lankan International School Riyadh uses Pearson Edexcel's International AS and A Level (IAL). All operate under a Saudi Ministry of Education licence. A-Level students in Riyadh face two years of heavy content with UCAS and Saudi equivalency decisions on top. King's College Riyadh, a newer British school, currently teaches younger year groups only, so its A-Level years are not yet open. Ask any school for its current subject list before applying.

Choosing between Cambridge A Level and Edexcel IAL

The two boards lead to the same kind of qualification but are built differently. Cambridge International AS and A Level is usually taken as a linear course with the full A Level assessed in the second year, or AS first and then A2. Edexcel IAL is modular: units can be sat in January, May/June or October and resat individually, which suits students who want to spread the load but tempts some to sit units before they are ready.

For a tutor this changes the plan. A Cambridge Maths student needs Pure 1 and a second paper secure by AS; an Edexcel IAL Maths student may be sitting P1 in January of Year 12. Tell us the board and the unit or component codes when you book.

Ministry rules and the Riyadh school year

Every A-Level school in Riyadh is licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Education and keeps the national identity subjects on the timetable: Arabic, Islamic studies and Saudi social studies, taught in Arabic to Saudi students. Saudi students who later apply to Saudi universities with A Levels also deal with certificate equivalency, so check requirements with the target university early rather than in Year 13.

Saudi national holidays close every school. In 2026-27 those include the Ministry's mid-year break from 8 to 16 January 2027, Founding Day on 22 February and Eid al-Adha from 7 to 22 May 2027, which falls inside the May/June series. Ramadan is expected to start around 8 February 2027, when Year 13 students are deep in revision and mock results.

What A-Level lessons look like

A-Level tutoring is less about re-teaching and more about precision. A tutor drills the question types that carry most marks in your child's papers, such as multi-step proofs in Maths or extended six-mark explanations in Biology, marks timed answers against the official mark scheme, and builds a short list of errors to fix. For Year 13 students applying to UK universities, a tutor can also stretch a strong student with harder problems relevant to admissions tests or interviews.

Lessons are 60 minutes, one to one, in LiveTutor's online classroom. Riyadh is on UTC+3 with no daylight saving, so a 5pm lesson in Riyadh is 3pm in London in winter and 2pm in summer. Sunday to Thursday evenings and Friday or Saturday mornings both work.

Is Edexcel IAL easier than Cambridge A Level?

Not easier, but structured differently. IAL is modular with three exam windows a year and unit resits; Cambridge is mostly linear. Universities treat both as full A Levels.

When should a Riyadh student start A-Level tutoring?

The first term of Year 12 is when the gap from IGCSE shows, especially in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Starting then is cheaper than rescuing AS results later.

How much do A-Level lessons cost?

$15 a lesson for every A-Level subject. Plans are 1 to 5 lessons a week billed monthly, so two lessons a week is $120 a month. The first lesson is a free trial.

Can one tutor cover both Maths and Further Maths?
