How Indian schooling is organised in Oman
Oman does things differently from most Gulf countries. Rather than many independent Indian schools each run by its own owner, the Ministry of Education entrusts a Board of Directors with setting up and managing the Indian schools, which the ministry classes as international schools. They operate under bye-laws the ministry approved on 28 November 2010. Admissions are coordinated centrally, and the Board publishes an admissions process for each year.
Inside the classroom, the schools are standard CBSE schools: NCERT textbooks, CBSE sample papers and the same board exams as in India. According to the Board, Oman has one of the largest numbers of CBSE schools outside India, after the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The academic year follows India's April start, while holidays follow Oman's calendar, including National Day in late November and the Eid holidays.
