How CBSE schools are regulated in the Eastern Province

A CBSE school here holds two approvals. Al Khozama International School puts it plainly on its website: affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi, and approved by the Ministry of Education, KSA. CBSE controls the syllabus, the board exams and the affiliation level; the ministry, through its education directorate for the Eastern Province, licenses the school, sets the national holidays and requires national identity subjects, chiefly Arabic and Islamic studies and Saudi social studies, with Saudi students taught them in Arabic.

For parents, the practical effect is a slightly longer school week than an Indian school in India would run, with Arabic lessons sitting next to the CBSE subjects. When a tutor plans revision around the school timetable, those periods are part of the picture.

Board exams and the Eastern Province calendar

Eastern Province candidates sit CBSE boards in the region, at schools approved as centres, on the same date sheet as India. Class 10 has had a compulsory first board exam in February and March and an optional May exam since 2026; Class 12 sits once, from mid-February. As of 6 October 2026, CBSE had opened the 2027 List of Candidates but not released the 2027 date sheet.

Saudi public schools in the Eastern Province opened for 1448 on 23 August 2026, and the Ministry of Education is running two semesters this year. CBSE schools keep their own April-based year, but Saudi national holidays, such as National Day on 23 September and Founding Day on 22 February, close every school.
