CBSE Class 12 Chemistry tutor: physical, inorganic and organic

CBSE Class 12 Chemistry (code 043) is a 70-mark, 3-hour theory paper plus a 30-mark practical exam. The 2026-27 syllabus has ten chapters: Solutions (7), Electrochemistry (9), Chemical Kinetics (7), d- and f-Block Elements (7), Coordination Compounds (7), and five organic chapters, from Haloalkanes and Haloarenes to Biomolecules, worth 33 marks between them. The theory paper puts 40% of marks on remembering and understanding and 30% each on application and on analysis and evaluation. In the practical, volumetric analysis and salt analysis are 8 marks each, a content-based experiment 6, the project 4, and the record and viva 4.

Where Class 12 Chemistry marks are lost

  • Organic conversions: students learn reactions one by one but cannot chain them, for example turning an alkyl halide into an amine with one more carbon.
  • Named reactions: mixing up the reagents and conditions for reactions such as Cannizzaro, aldol condensation and Hoffmann bromamide degradation.
  • Electrochemistry numericals: the Nernst equation with the wrong number of electrons, or confusing molar and specific conductivity.
  • Chemical kinetics: integrated rate equations and half-life for first-order reactions, and units of the rate constant.
  • Coordination compounds: IUPAC naming and predicting hybridisation and magnetic behaviour.
  • Colligative properties: forgetting the van't Hoff factor for electrolytes.

How one-to-one Class 12 Chemistry lessons work

Lessons are 60 minutes, one to one, in LiveTutor's online classroom with video and a shared whiteboard. For organic chemistry, the tutor builds a reaction map on the board as the year goes on, so that conversions become a matter of finding a route rather than memorising lists. Physical chemistry lessons work through numericals with units written at every step; inorganic lessons focus on trends and exceptions that recur in questions.

A tutor who teaches CBSE Chemistry uses NCERT text closely, since many board questions follow its wording, then the CBSE sample paper and marking scheme. Salt analysis and volumetric procedures can be revised in lessons too, though the experiments themselves happen at school.

When to start

The organic chapters come in the second half of the course and carry almost half the theory marks, so a student who is weak in Class 11 organic basics (nomenclature, isomerism, reaction mechanisms) should start early in Class 12. Students strong in organic but weak in physical chemistry can start later and focus on Solutions, Electrochemistry and Kinetics, which together carry 23 marks.

Common questions

How much of Class 12 Chemistry is organic?

The five organic chapters (Haloalkanes and Haloarenes to Biomolecules) carry 33 of the 70 theory marks in the 2026-27 syllabus.

How is the Chemistry practical marked?

Volumetric analysis 8, salt analysis 8, a content-based experiment 6, project work 4, and class record with viva 4, for 30 marks in total.

Does CBSE give chapter-wise weightage in the paper?

The syllabus lists marks per chapter, but the question paper design notes that no strict chapter-wise weightage is guaranteed and that all chapters must be covered. Do not skip a chapter.

Is NCERT enough for Class 12 Chemistry?

For the board exam, NCERT text and in-text questions are the core. Exemplar problems and CBSE sample papers add practice with the competency-based questions.

How much does Class 12 Chemistry tutoring cost?

$15 a lesson, the same for every subject and level, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial.
