Two bodies to know: the ministry and the BQA
In Bahrain, private schools are licensed by the Ministry of Education, and their quality is reviewed separately by the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA, هيئة جودة التعليم والتدريب). BQA publishes school review reports on its website, so a parent comparing two IGCSE schools can read an independent judgement of teaching, outcomes and leadership rather than relying on marketing.
Bilingual schools such as ARKIS and Hawar combine Cambridge or IB programmes with Arabic and Islamic studies, and often label years as grades. A grade 9 student at Hawar starting IGCSE is roughly the same age as a Year 10 student at BSB, which matters when comparing timetables and tutoring needs.

Exams in Bahrain after the 2026 cancellations
Pearson cancelled school exams in Bahrain for the May/June 2026 series because of the regional conflict. Students received grades from evidence such as mock papers and assessed work, or chose to defer to May/June 2027. Cambridge set up its own portfolio-of-evidence arrangements for affected schools. For current Year 11 students, the lesson is simple: treat mocks and end-of-unit tests as if they count, because in 2026 they did.
Students entering privately should check early in the year which centres in Bahrain, such as the British Council or a school, are accepting external candidates, as June entries close months ahead.
How one-to-one online IGCSE lessons help in Bahrain
A tutor who teaches the same Cambridge syllabus as the school, for example 0580 or 0980 maths or 0610 biology, works from the student's latest test: re-teaching topics that were not secure, then practising past-paper questions under time. Bahraini students often want help with the English of science answers as much as the science itself, and a patient tutor can work on both. Lessons are 60 minutes at $15, timed for the late afternoon or the weekend, and the first lesson is free.
