Licensing and the identity subjects
An IGCSE school in Jeddah answers to the Ministry of Education through the Jeddah education directorate, which grants the operating licence, and to Cambridge or Pearson for its exam centre status. The Ministry requires Arabic, Islamic studies and Saudi history and geography for every student, taught in Arabic to Saudi nationals. Thamer International Schools, for example, describes itself as accredited by the Ministry as a leading international school while running a full Cambridge programme.
Because those subjects share the same timetable, the IGCSE subject load leaves less slack than in a UK school, so choosing subjects well matters.
Jeddah's calendar runs a week later
The Ministry's 1448 calendar treats the Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and Taif education directorates differently from the rest of the Kingdom: public schools there opened on 30 August 2026, a week after Riyadh and Dammam, and the year closes about a week later too, around 1 July 2027. International schools set their own term dates within the Ministry framework, but national holidays and Ramadan hours apply to them as well.
Cambridge exam dates do not move for Jeddah. The May/June 2027 series runs on the international timetable, and Ramadan, expected from around 8 February 2027, falls during mock season. Revision plans that put the heaviest work in March and April, after Eid al-Fitr, tend to hold up better than plans that leave it to May.
Online IGCSE lessons from Jeddah
Jeddah is a long city, and crossing it at school-run time can take longer than the lesson itself. Lessons happen in LiveTutor's online classroom, with video and a shared whiteboard, so a student in Obhur and a student in Al Rawdah get the same lesson without anyone driving.
The tutor works to the syllabus code (for example Cambridge 0610 Biology or 0625 Physics) and to your child's tier, Core or Extended, where the subject has one. Expect short written tasks between lessons, then timed past-paper questions marked to the mark scheme from January of Year 11. Slots between 4pm and 8pm on school days, Sunday to Thursday, fit around most Jeddah timetables.
Common questions
Which Jeddah schools are Cambridge exam centres?
Thamer International Schools and Waad Academy both state that they are Cambridge exam centres, and most large British-curriculum schools run Cambridge exams for their own students. Ask the school's exams officer whether it accepts external candidates.
Does Jeddah's later school start affect IGCSE exams?
No. Cambridge sets one international timetable, so the May/June 2027 papers are the same in Jeddah as in Riyadh. Only school terms and holidays shift.
Should my child take Core or Extended?
That depends on the subject and the grade your child is aiming for, because Core caps the top grade available. A tutor can give an independent view after a few lessons of written work.
How much is an IGCSE lesson?
$15 a lesson for any IGCSE subject, with plans of 1 to 5 lessons a week billed monthly ($60 a month for one a week). The first lesson is a free trial.
Can lessons be at weekends?
Yes. Friday and Saturday slots are available, which suits students who want a longer revision session before the school week.
