IGCSE tutors in Kuwait: British schools, exam series and timing

In the Kuwait City area, IGCSEs are taught at British-curriculum schools such as The British School of Kuwait and Kuwait English School in Salwa, Gulf English School in Salmiya, Kuwait National English School in Hawally and The English Academy. Students take them in Years 10 and 11 with Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel. Private schools are supervised by the Ministry of Education's private education department, and a unified 2026-27 timetable ends the secondary day at 1:55pm. That leaves late afternoon free for a 60-minute online lesson. Pearson cancelled its May/June 2026 school exams in Kuwait because of the regional conflict, so keep mock evidence safe.

Who oversees British schools in Kuwait

Foreign private schools in Kuwait are licensed and supervised by the Ministry of Education through its private education department (الإدارة العامة للتعليم الخاص). The ministry sets the frame: the school week runs Sunday to Thursday, and for 2026-27 it issued unified daily hours that cover private schools as well as government ones, with secondary classes from 7:45am to 1:55pm. Within that frame, British schools follow the National Curriculum for England and choose their own boards. Some, like The English Academy, are also inspected against the UK's British Schools Overseas standard.

Most British schools set their own term dates rather than the government calendar, which started on 13 September 2026 for first graders. Check your school's calendar for the October half-term, the winter break and Kuwait's National and Liberation Days on 25 and 26 February.

Pearson cancelled school exams in Kuwait for May/June 2026 and named May/June 2027 as the next available series for students who deferred.

Private candidates and the 2026 disruption

A student outside school, or one resitting a subject, needs a centre that accepts external candidates. The British Council in Kuwait and some schools, such as KNES, which describes itself as an accredited external exam centre, have filled that role; contact them early in the school year, as entry deadlines for a June series fall months before.

The 2026 summer series is a reminder to keep evidence. Where Pearson cancelled exams in Kuwait, it awarded grades from material such as mock papers and other assessed work. A student who treats mocks seriously, with a tutor reviewing the marked scripts, is protected either way.

How online IGCSE lessons fit a Kuwaiti school day

With secondary classes finishing just before 2pm, a 4pm or 5pm lesson in Kuwait time leaves room for lunch, rest and homework. A tutor who teaches the same board as the school works through the specification topic by topic: rebuilding algebra for Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1 maths, or the calculations in chemistry where most marks are lost, then setting timed questions from past papers. Lessons are 60 minutes, online, at $15, and the first is free. Arabic-speaking tutors are available for some subjects, ask when you book.
