Where Class 12 Accountancy marks are lost
- Goodwill on admission or retirement: using the wrong method (average profit, super profit or capitalisation) or the wrong ratio (sacrificing vs gaining).
- Revaluation account and partners' capital accounts: one missed adjustment, such as an unrecorded liability, throws out every later balance.
- Death of a partner: calculating the deceased partner's share of profit up to the date of death and preparing the executor's account.
- Dissolution: realisation account entries for assets taken over by partners and liabilities paid in cash.
- Shares: journal entries for over-subscription with pro-rata allotment, calls in arrears and forfeiture followed by re-issue at a discount.
- Cash flow statement: classifying items into operating, investing and financing activities, and adjusting for non-cash items under the indirect method.
Ratios in the 2026-27 syllabus
| Group | Ratios |
|---|---|
| Liquidity | Current ratio, quick ratio |
| Solvency | Debt to equity, total assets to debt, proprietary ratio, interest coverage |
| Activity | Inventory turnover, trade receivables turnover, trade payables turnover, working capital turnover |
| Profitability | Gross profit ratio and the other profitability ratios listed in the syllabus |
How one-to-one Class 12 Accountancy lessons work
Lessons are 60 minutes, one to one, in LiveTutor's online classroom with video and a shared whiteboard, where ledger formats, journal entries and capital accounts are drawn up together. Accountancy is a subject of formats and adjustments, so a tutor who teaches CBSE Accountancy works through one full question at a time, then varies a single adjustment to show its effect on every account.
Partnership chapters get the most time because they carry the most marks and each builds on the last. Before the boards, lessons switch to timed practice with the CBSE sample paper, focusing on presentation, since neat working notes and correct formats protect marks even when a final figure is wrong.
When to start
Start at the beginning of Class 12 if Class 11 basics (journal, ledger, trial balance, final accounts) are not secure, because partnership accounts assume them. Goodwill and admission come early in the year and are the usual turning point; students who fall behind there rarely catch up without help.
Common questions
What is the difference between the two Part B options?
Option 1 is Financial Statement Analysis: analysis of company financial statements and ratios (12 marks) and the cash flow statement (8), with a 20-mark project. Option 2 is Computerized Accounting (20) with 20 marks of practical work instead of the project. The school decides which it offers.
Which chapters carry the most marks?
Accounting for Partnership Firms carries 36 of the 80 theory marks, and Accounting for Companies 24, so Part A is 60 marks.
Is dissolution fully in the syllabus?
Dissolution is included, but piecemeal distribution, sale to a company and insolvency of a partner are excluded in the 2026-27 syllabus.
Does my child need Class 11 Accountancy to be strong?
Yes. Class 12 assumes journal entries, ledgers and final accounts from Class 11. A tutor will usually spend the first lessons checking these.
How much does Class 12 Accountancy tutoring cost?
$15 a lesson, the same for every subject and level, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial.
