The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 use the same digital, adaptive format as the SAT in the Bluebook app, with slightly easier content.
How Gulf students get a PSAT seat
Students cannot register for the PSAT on the College Board website. American-curriculum and IB schools in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman that offer it enrol their own students, usually in Grade 10 or 11, and set the fee. If your child's school does not offer it, College Board's advice is to contact a local school that does at least six weeks before the window. A student from a school in the United States who is living abroad temporarily should bring their US school's name, address and code.
For most Gulf families the PSAT is a practice run. It uses the same Bluebook interface, question types and timing as the SAT, and the score report shows which skills need work. The PSAT/NMSQT also enters eligible students into the National Merit Scholarship Program; the corporation sets its own citizenship and residency rules, so check nationalmerit.org if this matters to you.
What to do before the school test day
- Ask the school counsellor or AP and SAT coordinator which day it has chosen and whether your child is registered.
- Install Bluebook on the testing device and try the practice PSAT in it, timed.
- Bring a valid photo ID and a charged device on the day, plus an acceptable calculator if your child prefers one to Desmos.
- When the score arrives, use the skills breakdown to plan SAT preparation for the spring or summer.
Turning a PSAT score into an SAT plan
A PSAT score report is the cheapest diagnostic a family will get. A tutor reads it question type by question type, picks the two or three skills costing the most points, and builds lessons towards a first SAT in March, May or June 2027. Lessons are one to one, online and 60 minutes, so they slot around the school week.
Common questions
When is the PSAT in 2026 in the UAE or Saudi Arabia?
Outside the US, schools give the PSAT/NMSQT on a day they choose between 1 and 30 October 2026, or on Saturday 17 October. Ask your child's school for its date.
Can my child register for the PSAT online?
No. The PSAT is an in-school test. Schools register their own students. If your school does not offer it, contact another local school that does, at least six weeks before the window.
Does the PSAT score count for university?
No. Universities do not use PSAT scores. Its value is practice for the SAT and, for eligible students, entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program.
When do PSAT scores come out?
About two weeks after the school's test day. For a 9 October 2026 test, students see scores on 22 October.
How much is PSAT or SAT tutoring?
$15 per 60-minute one-to-one lesson, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial.
