Unused lessons do not roll over to the next month. Lessons cancelled or rescheduled 48 hours or more in advance cost nothing.
How to compare fairly
Compare like with like. A quoted hourly rate is only comparable if the lesson is also one to one and 60 minutes; group classes and 45-minute sessions are different products. Check whether the quote includes travel time for a home visit, materials, and what happens if a lesson is cancelled.

How many lessons a week
One lesson a week suits steady support in one subject. Two a week is a common choice for an exam year or a subject that has fallen behind, because there is time between lessons to practise but not enough to forget. Three or more usually makes sense only in the final weeks before exams or when two subjects need help.
