IB tutors in Doha: Diploma schools, the May session and support

Doha has a dense cluster of IB World Schools. The IB's own directory lists Qatar Academy Doha (an IB school since 2002), International School of London Qatar, ACS International School Doha, Qatar Academy Sidra, SEK International School Qatar, Arab International Academy and Swiss International School as authorised for the Diploma Programme, all sitting the May session. They are private schools licensed by Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE), so the IB timetable runs inside Qatar's calendar and alongside compulsory Arabic and Islamic education. Online one-to-one lessons are most useful for Maths AA or AI, the sciences and the Extended Essay.

How Qatar's rules shape an IB timetable

IB schools in Doha are private schools under MOEHE, and MOEHE policy requires Arabic, Islamic education and Qatar history in every private school curriculum, in separate periods. For a DP student, that sits on top of six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Families moving from Europe are often surprised by how full the week becomes in Year 12 (DP1).

The Qatar calendar helps in places. The late-October mid-term break and the two weeks from 20 December 2026 to 2 January 2027 fall at points where DP2 students are usually drafting the Extended Essay and Internal Assessments, so a plan for those breaks matters more than extra lessons in term.

What a one-to-one IB tutor does for a Doha student

IB tutoring works best on the components where marks are won outside the exam hall and on the papers with the steepest drop-off. In Maths Analysis and Approaches that means Paper 3 style investigations and calculator technique; in the sciences, an Internal Assessment research question that is narrow enough to score well. For the Extended Essay, a tutor can coach structure and argument, but cannot write or rewrite it, and the school supervisor stays in charge.
