IB tutors in Kuwait: the three Diploma schools and how to prepare

Kuwait has a small IB Diploma community. The IB's school directory lists three schools authorised for the Diploma Programme: the American International School of Kuwait (since 1993), American Creativity Academy (since 2008) and Kuwait Bilingual School (since 2024). AIS also runs the full IB continuum from PYP to DP alongside an American diploma. With so few DP schools, a student who struggles cannot easily change school, so support usually comes as one-to-one help in Maths, the sciences, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Schools are licensed by Kuwait's Ministry of Education, private education department.

What a small IB scene means for families

In Doha or Dubai, a family unhappy with one IB school can move to another. In Kuwait the Diploma is offered by three schools, two of them American schools that run the IB beside a US high school diploma. That has practical effects. Class sizes in some higher level subjects can be small, which is good for attention but means fewer peers to revise with. Subject choices are limited to what each school can staff, so an HL combination needed for a university course is not always available. And a student who arrives mid-programme from another country has very few places to go.

It also explains why IB families in Kuwait lean on outside help for specific components rather than general homework support: the Internal Assessment in a science, Paper 3 in Maths Analysis and Approaches, or the TOK essay.

How online IB lessons work for students in Kuwait

Under the ministry's unified hours for 2026-27, secondary classes end at 1:55pm, though DP students often stay later for CAS and clubs. Most choose a weekly evening lesson in Kuwait time or a Saturday session. A tutor who teaches the same IB course works from the subject guide: in sciences, testing whether an IA research question is focused enough to score in the top bands; in Maths AA or AI, drilling the paper style that costs the student most; in TOK, practising how to build a knowledge question into an argument. The Extended Essay remains the student's own work under the school supervisor. Each 60-minute lesson costs $15, and the first is free.
