Sitting AQA exams from the Gulf
AQA papers sit in common exam slots agreed by all UK exam boards through the Joint Council for Qualifications. The published starting time of every exam is 9.00am or 1.30pm UK time, and AQA allows schools to start up to 30 minutes earlier or later without telling it. For any other change, AQA refers schools to the JCQ Instructions for conducting examinations, so ask your school's exams officer which local start times it will use.
AQA is mainly a UK board. In the Gulf, the international versions from Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are more common, but some British-curriculum schools enter AQA for particular GCSE or A-level subjects. Check the specification code on your child's course materials: AQA GCSE codes start with 8 (for example 8300 for Maths) and A-level codes with 7.
Planning for the 2027 series
- Confirm the exact specification codes and tiers with the school before the 21 February 2027 entry deadline.
- Note any non-exam assessment deadlines: AQA requires most GCSE internally assessed marks by 7 May 2027 and A-level practical endorsements by 15 May 2027.
- Map the four-week stretch from 10 May to 18 June against the school's own revision and mock calendar.
- Keep 23 June free until the series is over, in case the contingency day is used.
How LiveTutor lessons help with AQA exams
AQA questions have their own style, from the six-mark extended responses in GCSE sciences to the structured analysis in English Language Paper 1. A tutor who teaches the AQA specification marks practice answers against AQA mark schemes and shows your child how marks are awarded at each level.
Lessons are one to one, 60 minutes and online, and families can ask for a tutor who lists AQA among the boards they teach.
Common questions
When do AQA GCSE exams start in 2027?
Monday 10 May 2027. The first GCSE Maths paper (non-calculator) is on Friday 14 May, and the last timetabled GCSE exam is on Friday 18 June 2027.
When are AQA results days in 2027?
A-level and AS results are released to students on 12 August 2027 and GCSE results on 19 August 2027, both from 08:00 UK time.
What is the 23 June 2027 contingency day?
A reserve date agreed across UK exam boards. AQA says it will be used only if sustained national or significant local disruption affects the June 2027 series. Students should keep it free until the series ends.
What time do AQA exams start in Dubai or Riyadh?
AQA publishes 9.00am and 1.30pm UK start times and allows a 30-minute variation. For anything beyond that, AQA refers schools to the JCQ Instructions for conducting examinations, so ask your school's exams officer for local times.
How much does AQA GCSE or A-level tutoring cost with LiveTutor?
$15 a lesson for every subject and level, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons a week billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial.
