What the Saudi market looked like before

Saudi newspapers have tracked tutoring prices for years, and their reports explain why families are wary of the headline rate. In September 2020, Al Watan found advertisements offering middle and secondary school subjects at SAR 300 to 500 per subject per month, and one family paying SAR 2,700 a month for all primary subjects with a single tutor. A year later, during distance learning, it reported online tutoring at SAR 50 to 100 an hour, an average of SAR 323 per subject for home tutoring at primary level, and one tutor charging SAR 500 for a 45-minute session and SAR 800 an hour.

Those figures are several years old and come from advertisements rather than a survey, so treat them as context, not current prices. They do show two things that still hold: the range is very wide, and in-person tutoring in Riyadh and Jeddah has tended to cost more than online lessons with a tutor of similar experience.

What drives the price in Saudi Arabia

Level and purpose matter most. Primary homework support costs less than Grade 12 physics or Tahsili preparation, and tutors who teach international curricula such as IGCSE, A Level, IB or AP usually charge more than those teaching the Saudi curriculum, because the pool is smaller. Language is the second driver: families who want a tutor who can explain in Arabic and teach in English narrow the field. Format is the third: home visits add travel time, and group classes look cheaper per hour but divide the tutor's attention.

Demand peaks before Qudurat and Tahsili. The paper Qudurat for Grade 12 runs from 10 to 14 December 2026, and Tahsili follows in the spring, so prices and availability tighten in November and again from March. Booking a regular tutor early in the school year is usually cheaper and easier than finding one a few weeks before a test.

Questions to ask before you pay anyone

  1. Does the tutor teach your child's exact course: Saudi curriculum track, Qudurat or Tahsili, or an international board?
  2. Is the price per hour the same whatever you buy, or only cheap in a large prepaid package?
  3. What happens if the tutor is a poor fit after the first lesson?
  4. How much notice is needed to cancel or move a lesson?
  5. Will you hear what was covered and what to practise after each lesson?

Where LiveTutor sits

LiveTutor lessons are one to one, online and 60 minutes, at one flat rate of $15 for every subject and level, from primary maths to Tahsili physics. Families choose a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons, billed monthly: one lesson a week is $60 a month and two a week is $120. The first lesson is a free trial, there is a 7-day money-back guarantee before the first paid lesson, and lessons can be cancelled or moved at no cost with 48 hours' notice. Arabic-speaking tutors are available for some subjects; ask when you book.

Common questions

How much does a private tutor cost per hour in Saudi Arabia?

Published online rates in 2026 run from about SAR 64 on marketplaces to SAR 380 for premium international-curriculum tutors. In between, agency rates such as My Tutor Source's USD 20 to 45 come to about SAR 75 to 169.

Is home tutoring more expensive than online in Saudi Arabia?

Usually. Press reports have shown home tutors charging well above online rates, because travel time is built into the price.

Why do Qudurat and Tahsili tutors cost more?

Demand peaks before test dates and fewer tutors specialise in them, so rates and availability tighten in the weeks before each sitting.

How much is LiveTutor per month?
