Why Jeddah's calendar differs
The Ministry of Education sets one national calendar but gives the education directorates of Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and Taif a schedule that runs one week later. In 1448 that meant teachers returning on 23 August and students on 30 August 2026, and the year closing around 1 July 2027 instead of 24 June. Families with cousins in Riyadh or Dammam will notice exams and holidays landing a week apart.
Fixed national holidays, such as National Day on 23 September and Founding Day on 22 February, are the same everywhere. For semester exam weeks and the mid-year break, rely on your child's school or the Jeddah education directorate rather than a national calendar printed elsewhere.
Where Saudi-curriculum students need help
With two semesters instead of three, each semester now carries more chapters before its final exams, and secondary maths and physics move quickly once students enter a track. The Computer Science and Engineering track and the General track lean hardest on maths; Health and Life Sciences adds more chemistry and biology. Those same subjects feed Tahsili at the end of secondary school.
A tutor follows the Ministry textbook chapter the class is on, explains the method behind each exercise rather than just the answer, and sets short practice between lessons. In the last weeks of a semester, lessons switch to past final exam questions and timed practice.
Language and lesson times
Saudi-curriculum classes are taught in Arabic, while most of our tutors teach in English. For English as a subject that is ideal. For maths and sciences, some students are happy to learn in English with the Arabic terms alongside; others need an Arabic-speaking tutor. We have a small number, available for some subjects only, and we will tell you honestly if we cannot match one rather than send a tutor who cannot explain in your child's language.
Lessons are 60 minutes, one to one, in LiveTutor's online classroom, at Jeddah time (UTC+3), after school Sunday to Thursday or at the weekend.
Common questions
When did school start in Jeddah for 1448?
Students in the Makkah region, including Jeddah, returned on Sunday 30 August 2026, one week after Riyadh and the Eastern Province.
Do you have Arabic-speaking tutors for the Saudi curriculum?
A small number, for some subjects only. Tell us the subject and grade when you book and we will say honestly whether we can match one.
Can lessons follow my daughter's school textbook?
Yes. Send the chapter or page the class is on and the tutor works from it, with practice questions in the same style.
How much do lessons cost?
$15 a lesson for any grade or subject, on a plan of 1 to 5 lessons a week billed monthly ($60 a month for one lesson a week). The first lesson is a free trial.
Is the 1448 year two semesters?
Yes. The Cabinet approved two semesters for general education from 1447, and 1448 follows the same pattern.
