UAE MOE physics tutor: General and Advanced streams

In the UAE Ministry of Education curriculum, physics sits inside science in the General stream's Grades 9 and 10 and is its own course in Grades 10 to 12 of the Advanced stream, so depth depends on the stream. For 2026-27 the Ministry restructured physics for Grades 10 to 12 in the Advanced stream, restructured General-stream science for Grades 9 and 10, and moved Grade 9 Advanced science into English in private schools on the MOE curriculum. Grade 12 General-stream students may replace physics with other subjects under Ministry guidance. For Advanced students heading to engineering or medicine, physics is one of the subjects universities look at most closely.

The skills that decide physics marks

Unit order varies by grade and school, but the same skills cost students marks in every physics course.

  • Rearranging equations before substituting numbers, and keeping units in SI throughout.
  • Vectors: resolving forces and velocities into components, and adding them correctly.
  • Reading and drawing graphs: gradient as velocity or acceleration, area as displacement or work.
  • Free-body diagrams: identifying every force before applying Newton's second law.
  • Circuits: series and parallel resistance, and applying conservation of charge and energy at junctions.
  • Explaining in words: describe-and-explain questions where a correct idea is lost by vague English.

The language gap in physics

Physics is the subject where the move to English is hardest, because questions are long and every word matters: a student who reads 'decelerates' as 'accelerates' answers a different question. Students moving from Arabic-medium science also need to relearn the vocabulary they use to explain: displacement (الإزاحة), net force (القوة المحصلة), momentum (الزخم), potential difference (فرق الجهد).

A tutor can turn that into a short, steady task: a bilingual glossary built unit by unit, reading practice on exam-style questions, and short written explanations corrected for both physics and English.

How one-to-one MOE physics lessons work

Lessons are 60 minutes, one to one, in LiveTutor's online classroom with video and a shared whiteboard, where diagrams and calculations are drawn and checked live. A tutor who teaches the UAE MOE curriculum follows your child's textbook and school assessments, and plans revision around the end of term exams. Lessons are normally in English; Arabic-speaking tutors are available for some subjects, so ask when you book if you want explanations in Arabic too.

Most lessons mix a short concept review with problems of rising difficulty. Before exams, the tutor works through past school assessments under time and keeps a list of your child's repeated errors.

When to start

For Advanced-stream students, the start of Grade 10 is a good moment, when physics becomes more mathematical and, in private schools, the switch to English is approaching. If your child's first term results in physics are low, start before the next end of term exam rather than after it. One lesson a week is usually enough to keep pace.

Common questions

What changed in MOE physics for 2026-27?

The Ministry restructured physics courses for Grades 10 to 12 in the Advanced stream and science for Grades 9 and 10 in the General stream. Grade 9 Advanced science also moved to English in private schools on the MOE curriculum.

Does my child have to take physics in Grade 12?

In the General stream, Grade 12 students may replace physics with other subjects according to Ministry guidance. Advanced-stream students keep physics, as it is central to the science, engineering and medicine routes the stream leads to.

Will physics be taught in English at my child's private school?

If the school follows the MOE curriculum and your child is in the Advanced stream, yes, in phases: Grade 9 from 2026-27, Grades 9 and 10 from 2027-28, Grades 9 to 11 from 2028-29 and Grades 9 to 12 from 2029-30.

Can the same tutor teach physics and maths?

Often, yes. Many tutors who teach MOE physics also teach maths, which helps because Advanced physics leans heavily on algebra, trigonometry and graphs. Ask when you book.

How much do MOE physics lessons cost?

$15 a lesson, the same for every subject and level, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial.
