What the on-screen exams are like
The exams run in secure software installed by the school, not in a web browser, and do not need a constant internet connection. Questions mix short answers, data, images, video, simulations and extended writing, and they test how students apply concepts to unfamiliar material rather than recall alone. Practising on the IB's on-screen format matters as much as knowing the content.
Not every MYP school in the Gulf registers students for eAssessment. Some use it for all Year 5 students, some for selected subjects, and some rely on internal grades only. Ask the school early, because registration closes in October for the following May.
How to prepare between now and May 2027
- Confirm with the MYP coordinator which subjects your child is registered for, by the 20 October deadline.
- Use the IB's specimen and past on-screen exams in the school's practice software, so the format is familiar.
- For the interdisciplinary exam, study the pre-release material carefully once it appears on 1 April.
- Keep the personal project on schedule, since it is required and, for registered students, moderated by the IB.
How a tutor helps with MYP eAssessment
MYP exams are marked against criteria, so students lose marks by not showing the skill the criterion asks for, not only by not knowing the content. A tutor who teaches the MYP works through criterion-referenced questions, builds the extended-response habits that carry straight into the IB Diploma, and keeps coursework on track. Lessons are one to one, online and 60 minutes, at $15 each.
Common questions
When are MYP eAssessment exams in 2027?
The May 2027 on-screen exams run over two weeks in May 2027. The IB gives schools the subject-by-subject schedule, so ask the MYP coordinator for your child's dates.
When do MYP results come out?
For the May session, results are issued from 12:00 noon GMT on 1 August 2027. The school passes them on; students do not use the Diploma results website.
Is MYP eAssessment compulsory?
No. External assessment is optional and chosen by the school, but the personal project is a required part of MYP Year 5. The full IB MYP certificate needs the complete set of components.
How long is each MYP on-screen exam?
Two hours for language and literature, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and interdisciplinary learning; 1 hour 45 minutes for language acquisition.
How much are MYP tutoring lessons?
$15 per 60-minute one-to-one lesson, on a weekly plan of 1 to 5 lessons billed monthly. The first lesson is a free trial.
